Stripe Terminal Integration for Selflane POS App

The Selflane POS App supports Stripe Terminal for accepting in-person payments, expanding its capabilities beyond online order processing. If you’ve already set up Stripe for online ordering, you’re ready to start using Stripe Terminal for in-person payments as well.

Reader Options

Stripe Terminal offers three reader options:

  1. Bluetooth Reader
  2. Internet-Connected Reader
  3. Tap to Pay

1. Bluetooth Reader

  • Stripe Reader M2: A compact, Bluetooth-enabled reader. It’s ideal for businesses that need a portable payment solution.

2. Internet-Connected Reader

  • BBPOS WisePOS E: A versatile, Wi-Fi-connected reader recommended for most use cases. It is cost-effective and has a screen but does not support manual card entry for mail-in or phone orders (MOTO).

  • Stripe Reader S700: Another internet-connected reader, it’s more expensive than the WisePOS E but offers similar functionality. We recommend WisePOS E unless you already have a Stripe Reader S700.

3. Tap to Pay

  • Tap to Pay on iPhone: Allows you to accept contactless payments directly on an iPhone without additional hardware. Please note this feature is not available on iPads due to their lack of NFC capability.

Comparison: Bluetooth vs. Internet-Connected Readers

When deciding between a Bluetooth and an internet-connected reader, consider the following:

  • Portability: Both the Bluetooth-connected Stripe Reader M2 and the Wi-Fi-enabled WisePOS E offer mobile payment options.

  • Cost: The WisePOS E is pricier than the Stripe Reader M2, but its durability and ability to connect to multiple POS devices make it a solid long-term investment.

  • Device Pairing: The WisePOS E can connect to multiple POS devices simultaneously, while the Stripe Reader M2 can only pair with one POS device at a time.

  • Durability: The WisePOS E may be more robust for businesses with high transaction volumes.
