Balance
Balance is the summary view that combines revenue and controllable operating costs.
Use it to answer:
- Are we improving operating margin over time?
- Is payroll scaling appropriately with sales?
- Are expense categories drifting outside target?

Core Metrics
- Monthly Net Sales: sales before tax and tip.
- Expenses: costs entered in Expenses.
- Payroll: labor cost from payroll setup (excluding payroll taxes).
- Balance: resulting operating balance after expenses and payroll.
How to Read It
- Rising net sales with flat payroll ratio is usually positive.
- Expense spikes without sales lift should be investigated.
- Persistent balance decline requires pricing, labor, or cost-control action.
