Send receipts and order-ready texts

Send a customer a link to their order when they need a receipt or when their order is ready. Receipt and order-ready texts use the paid Text Messaging add-on. Email receipts are free and do not require it.

Open order messaging

Open the order in the POS and tap Text. After an order is paid, you can also tap Text Messaging Receipt on the payment screen. Both open the order’s messaging screen.

If you see Turn On Text Messaging, the text add-on is off. Ask the business owner to approve the charge before you tap it. You can still select Email Receipt without turning on texts.

Sent texts are billed under Text Messaging on the monthly invoice, subject to your plan’s allowance. Contact Support for current rates and plan details.

Send a receipt

  1. Open the order’s messaging screen after payment.
  2. Select Send Receipt.
  3. Check the customer’s phone number. The POS fills it in when the order has one; you can enter or change it here. Use a valid 10-digit number.
  4. Tap Send Receipt.

The customer receives a text with a link to the order page and its receipt.

Announce that an order is ready

  1. Open the order in the POS and tap Text.
  2. Select Announce Readiness.
  3. Check or enter the customer’s 10-digit phone number.
  4. Tap Announce Readiness.

The customer receives an order-ready text with a link to the same order page.

Email a receipt

  1. Open the order’s messaging screen after payment.
  2. Select Email Receipt.
  3. Check the customer’s email address. The POS fills it in when the order has one; you can enter or change it here.
  4. Tap Email Receipt.

The customer receives an email with a link to the order receipt. Email receipts are free, even when the Text Messaging add-on is off.

Check a send or fix a problem

The list below the send controls shows recent texts and emails for that order, including the destination and time. Check it before sending again.

  • If the POS asks for a valid phone number, correct the number and try again.
  • If the POS asks for a valid email address, correct the address and try again.
  • If the POS says to wait a minute, wait before retrying. The previous text could still be going through.
  • If the number has replied STOP or cannot receive texts, contact the customer another way. Do not keep retrying the same number.
  • If the add-on is off or your business cannot turn it on, ask the owner or contact Support.
  • Chat — have a two-way conversation about an online order.
  • Member marketing — send campaigns to members, separate from order messages.
